Australian War Memorial & Museum, Canberra - Australian Capital Territory
These photos were taken over a number of trips to Canberra. Due to the restriction of not being permitted to take a tripod into the museum, some of the photos are a little blurred. The Australian War Museum is an amazing place and a must-see, worth going to Canberra if just to see that. You need about 4 hours to do it justice, plus you can have a cuppa or lunch in the canteen.

The battle that rages for our hearts and minds is nothing less than a battle for truth.
The Christian worldview is under attack from many directions. Competing worldviews have infiltrated every area of modern society—education, politics, business, the media—and exercise a powerful influence on the way we think and behave. In such a battle, there is no room for ignorance.

'Simpson and his donkey,' in the grounds of the Australian War Museum. He served at Gallipoli in 1915 as Private John Simpson in the 3rd Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps. Simpson became famous for his work as a stretcher-bearer and as the man with the donkey at Gallipoli between 25 April, when he landed, and his death in action on 19 May. Using one of the donkeys landed on the first day for water carrying and later, a second animal, he transported wounded men day and night from the fighting in Monash Valley to the beach on ANZAC Cove. He did so, according to CEW Bean, through deadly sniping down the valley and the most furious shrapnel fire. By the time of his death, from machine gun fire as he was bringing down two wounded men, he had saved many lives. He was buried on the beach at Hell Spit. |
