Great Eastern Highway, Perth to
Kalgoorlie - Western Australia Commencing at Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, and running due east for 595 kms to Kalgoorlie is Great Eastern Hwy, part of the main route for all traffic and transport to and from the eastern states of Australia, and the lifeline to WA's eastern goldfields. It follows the Perth-Kalgoorlie Water Pipeline and Indian Pacific Railway, travelling through a variety of small to medium farming and gold prospecting towns.

Coolgardie Coolgardie is located seven hours drive east of Perth and a forty minute drive south west of Kalgoorlie. The Coolgardie of today has retained many aspects of its rich and colourful history. Its charm and friendliness make it a great town in which to discover the past. Coolgardie is world renowned for two events, the birthplace of the great gold rush of 1892 and Varischetti's amazing mine rescue after nine days trapped in a flooded mine underground. It was once the third largest town in Western Australia with two stock exchanges, three breweries, seven newspapers and 26 hotels. |
